A Midsummer Night's Dream with Dudamel

Walt Disney Concert Hall transforms into Shakespeare’s magical forest when Gustavo Dudamel leads Mendelssohn’s whimsical incidental music from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Complete with video projections setting the scene and Spanish actress María Valverde narrating, the music offers drama, fairies, and more than a little comedy. Dudamel has called Gabriela Ortiz “one of the most important composers in the world” for her distinct use of rhythm and harmonic colors. Alisa Weilerstein performs the world premiere of the Mexican composer’s new Cello Concerto.

Artists in the Canyon will be opening their homes or studios to the public for one weekend in this wonderful Topanga tradition. For years, the tour has seamlessly woven art and architecture, inviting participants to explore a curated selection of artists' studios. Each studio is a world of its own, reflecting the unique essence of the artist behind it. With the purchase of a ticket, attendees will gain access to a map of the studios participating, allowing them two days to guide themselves through the winding roads to the front steps of the artists' studios.

LA Opera Presents Spanish Dracula

While Bela Lugosi was vamping it up in front of the cameras by day, a night crew shot an alternate version of Dracula in Spanish — same sets, same story, new cast. This second incarnation of the classic, starring Carlos Villarías, was largely forgotten until a recent renaissance, and many now hail it as the superior version.

See it on the big screen (with English subtitles) as Resident Conductor Lina González-Granados leads the LA Opera Orchestra in a live performance of a new score by Academy Award-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla (The Last of Us, Brokeback Mountain).

Dia De Los Muertos at Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Every year on the last Saturday before November 2nd, Hollywood Forever welcomes the community onto the cemetery grounds to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos. The cemetery comes to life with joyful celebration, as a vibrant procession featuring hundreds of Aztec ritual dancers weaves through more than 100 altars, created by members of the community in remembrance of their ancestors and loved ones. Musical performances, art exhibitions, and food vendors complete the experience.
